Network rebuild onto a single managed platform

Three sites, three vendors, no monitoring. Consolidated onto one Cisco Meraki environment.

The challenge

Across three sites the business was running a mix of Sophos, Aruba and Ruckus equipment, each managed separately through its own interface. There was no single view of the network, no consistent configuration standard, and no monitoring at all, which meant outages were discovered when users rang in rather than when they happened.

What I did

I acted as technical lead on a full redesign and rebuild. All three sites moved onto Cisco Meraki across firewalls, SD-WAN, VPN and wireless, giving one dashboard for the entire estate. Wireless coverage was designed properly rather than inherited. I introduced PRTG monitoring alongside it so infrastructure health was actually observed. The work was staged site by site to avoid taking any location offline during business hours.

The outcome

One network, centrally managed, with a consistent configuration across all three sites. Problems now surface as alerts rather than as complaints.

At a glance

  • Three sites consolidated onto one managed platform
  • Firewalls, SD-WAN, VPN and wireless rebuilt
  • Wireless coverage designed rather than inherited
  • PRTG monitoring introduced where none existed
  • Staged rollout with no business-hours downtime
