Why I offer this free

Two honest reasons. First, most small businesses have no idea whether their IT is in good shape, because the only people who could tell them are the ones being paid to look after it. An independent view is genuinely useful even if you never hire me.

Second, I am building this consultancy alongside a full-time role, so I would rather spend an hour finding out whether we are a good fit than send you a proposal for work you may not need.

What it covers

• Security basics: multi-factor, access control, patching and backup
• Whether you could actually recover from ransomware or hardware failure
• Licensing and subscriptions you may be paying for and not using
• How your current provider or IT person is performing against what you pay
• Obvious risks: unsupported systems, single points of failure, key-person dependency
• Whether you would pass a client security questionnaire or Cyber Essentials
• The three things I would fix first, in priority order

How it works

• A 30-minute call to understand your business and how you work
• A short review of your setup, remotely or on-site if you are nearby
• A written summary sent to you within a few days, yours to keep

That is the whole thing. No presentation, no follow-up sequence, no pressure. If there is something I could help with I will say so once, and if there is not I will tell you that too.

What it is not

It is not a full audit. A proper assessment takes days and costs from £750, and I will tell you if that is what you actually need. This is a first look, honestly done, to tell you whether you should be worried.

Who it is for

Businesses of roughly 5 to 100 staff across the North West, or anywhere in the UK remotely. It is most useful if you have never had an independent review, you are unsure whether your provider is delivering, or something has recently gone wrong.

Response times: within 2 hours during working hours, and never more than 24 hours.
