Fractional IT Director
£350 – £1,200 / month

A Head of IT without the salary. Senior leadership a few days a month, on your side of the table.

  • Someone to sanity-check decisions and quotes
  • Roadmap, budget and supplier reviews
  • Support for your existing IT person or team
  • Rolling monthly, cancel anytime
  • Compare: a permanent IT director is £115,000+
How this works
No VAT

The price you see is the price you pay. I am not VAT registered, so there is no 20% to add on top. Against a VAT-registered provider quoting the same headline figure, that is a fifth off your actual bill.

What things typically cost

Most IT consultants make you book a call before they will talk numbers. Here are honest ranges instead. Tap any row to read what that service actually involves.

  • Ranges reflect real variation in size and complexity. You get a fixed quote after a free scoping call, and it does not move afterwards.
  • Migrations and cutovers are often best done out of hours. Weekend and evening work is charged at £550 per day, and usually saves more in avoided disruption than it costs.
  • On-site work within roughly 30 miles of Skelmersdale is included. Further afield, travel is agreed up front rather than added later.
  • Larger projects can be split into stages, so you can stop after any stage if you want to.
  • The first 30-minute conversation is always free, whether or not anything comes of it.

How this compares

Versus an agency

Senior time, no overheads

Consultancies typically bill £600 to £900 a day and often put a junior on the work. You get someone who has run IT at Head of IT level, at a fraction of that, with no VAT on top.

Versus an MSP

No lock-in, no padding

Managed providers want a three-year contract and a per-user fee whether you need them that month or not. I would rather fix the thing properly and leave you needing me less.

Versus hiring

Strategic input without a salary

A permanent IT manager costs £45,000 or more with pension and holiday. An advisory retainer gives you senior judgement on the decisions that matter, for a fraction of it.

Tell me the job, I'll give you a number.

No drawn-out sales process. Describe what you need and I will come back with a straight quote.
